As we all adapt to our new normals, there are a few things that may never change. One being how much we love being outside, specifically at Lake Mac and Lake Ogallala, as the weather warms up! Maybe for you, it's high-time to get those kiddos outside for some activity, or maybe you just need a few peaceful moments alone on the water. Whatever the reason, we're here to tell you to get outside — and to be safe!

Social distancing regulations, including practicing good hygiene, are required, but you are still able to go relax on the beach, camp, swim and fish! The Water Temps have reached the 60's and the fish are on the move!

Not much of a fisherman? Well, what a time to learn! 

Here is a beginner's list of fishing must-haves! 

• Fishing rod and reel 
• Hooks 
• Life jacket (just in case) 
• Lures, bait worms, or leeches 
• Sunscreen 
• Snacks 
• Patience 
• Fishing License if over 18 years old
• And finally, SMILES!

Our local Walmart or Stetson's Corner Store out at the lake have all the supplies for a great beginner's set-up!

Some other things that could be important to know on your fishing expedition:

• Lake McConaughy is home to Walleye, Large Mouth Bass, Small Mouth Bass, White Bass, Catfish, Wipers, Northern Pikes, and Perch! 
• Lake Ogallala is home to Trout and some of the same species as Lake Mac! 

Where are the fish hiding?

As the water temps rise, the Walleye begin to travel to the west half of the lake. They tend to enjoy shallow, sandy, and tree-filled areas.

Bass are partial to rocky points and areas, as well as grass and tree-filed spots. 

Catfish live on the west end of the lake! Lots of fishermen have good luck fishing the river and lake on the west end while on the hunt for some Catfish! 

Northern Pikes love to spend time in the bays with trees and the west end of the lake in the trees! 

Wipers are all over the beautiful lake, but they tend to hang around the bays with trees. 

Trout are all over at Lake Ogallala! 

Perch are perfect for fishing with young ones! All they require is a bobber, a worm, and patience.... They are little and easy to reel in for those younger fishermen. The best part? They are guaranteed to put a smile on any little fisherman's face!

Okay, that's cool! But where do I even start? 

Fisherman are currently having great luck fishing the Northwest end of Martin Bay, Arthur Bay and Otter Creek. Shallow fishing in the trees and rocks are really bringing those fish in!
